Week #2 - Theo with The Get Down Stay Down
Week #2 :Nostalgia, it’s like a game of Monopoly, the only exception being that, instead of landing on free parking or buying multiple houses in different places, there’s only one street…
Here’s where I am on Memory Lane: I’m getting on that freakin’ ridiculous yellow school bus at six in the morning. I’m pissed because it’s early and I don’t want to be there. Anger and being uncommunicative came naturally to me back then. I don’t even think the word anti-social could correctly sum up my introversion. I wanted nothing to do with anyone. So, I’d go sit in the back of the bus, prop my knees up against the seat in front of me, creating a huge lump that would jab at the person’s back in front of me, and throw my headphones over my ears to drown out the chatter and the loud sound of the engine. You would think that a memory like this wouldn’t make it on my “top 10 most cherished moments” list, but it’s there. I cherish it because it was the start of who I am today. Thao with The Get Down Stay Down
Thao with The Get Down Stay Down (Adam Thompson: bass, keys, and guitar / Willis Thompson: drums and percussion) would have been on my mp3 player then (definitely is now!), probably would have had the most plays too! Their music is raw; a simple yet complicated expression of life.
“Like the Linen’ (2005), “We Brave Bee Stings and All” (2008), are utterly fantastic albums and followed by them is their latest album, “Know Better Learn Faster,” released in 2009. To Download mp3, click "Know Better Learn Faster" on the player.
I hardly ever really get excited about a band, but the second Thao belted her first note and the main melodic progression began to resonate in my ears, an enormous smile took over my face and the muscles throughout my body started to move themselves involuntarily. If you can dance and take away a profound message from a song, you really can’t go wrong. Hands down, one of the most imaginative and visionary bands I have ever heard. Take one listen and you’ll be hooked. I promise!
“The album is named ‘Know Better Learn Faster’ because you can’t,” explains Thao. “By the time you realize you should, it’s too late. And I enjoy the predicament and the totally devastating, unfunny humor of that.” If you want unpredictability, but only in the best way possible, check out Thao with The Get Down Stay Down! Check below for links on where to find them and how to get your hands on their music. That’s all for now sweets, I’ll see you guys next week!
