Week #7 - Jess Walker Band
The New Album - Never Look BackThe New AlbumNew Album - 'Never Look Back'
"'Never Look Back' on the things in life that will hold you back, but instead keep looking forward to find the beautiful strength within you to endure and enjoy whatever comes." I've dreamed of being a musician since before I can even remember I'm sure. I remember discovering the little talent I had in second grade while singing to the first Backstreet Boys album on my way to school. To be honest, I was terrible as a child. So bad in fact, that years later, my grandmother refused to go to my cousins wedding if I was going to be singing at it because all she could remember was my awful impression of Britney Spears's "Oops I Did It Again." She ended up coming anyway and was completely blown away. That was my first public performance. Gosh, I haven't thought about that moment in a LONG time. I suppose, I really wouldn't be here, writing an album, if it weren't for my cousin, Kristin, sneaking up on me one day as I was singing and pushing me out of my comfort zone. I cried and cried and cried after I finished singing that day. It broke the gigantic wall I had built and put up against opening my heart to people. That day, I let everyone there see right through me and it was the most scariest fuckin shit I have ever done, but it showed me a part of myself I probably would have never looked at otherwise. It showed me my inner beauty. Since then, music has been the driving force of my motivation to better myself and to make a difference in the world. I've had the pleasure of working with amazing musicians throughout my musical career and on this album.
My very handsome band and producer: Jorge Maldonado (lead guitar), Joel Kipp (drums), Patrick Ajuoga (bass), and Karlo Castillo (producer). Jorge and I have an incredible writing chemistry, mainly because he knows how to pick my brain and play exactly what it is that I'm hearing. For that, he is incredible and because of him I have had some of my fondest memories.
I met Joel when he was just thirteen. He has continued to amaze and inspire me. I envy the fact that he is only sixteen now and has so much musical experience under his belt. Many many great things are in store for him. People say that Craigslist is shady and for the most part I agree, but if it weren't for the musicians forum there, I would have never met Patrick. People also go crazy about a bass player named Victor Wooten, they say that he's amazing, impeccable. They haven't heard Patrick play! And last, but certainly NOT least is Karlo. I cannot possibly explain in words the talent that he possesses. He has taught me so much about myself and music, it's meaning, and also recording. Not only has be become a great friend of mine, but also has come to stand, at least in my eyes, as one of the best producers I will ever know. I hope that this album comes to stand for more than just four songs that I've created. I hope that you take away a look into my life and the experiences that influenced the writing of these songs; that you can internalize them and in turn "Never Look Back" on the things in life that will hold you back, but instead keep looking forward to find the beautiful strength within you to endure and enjoy whatever comes. All My Love,
