Episode #10 - An Exclusive with Tracy Redington Tracy Redington was born in Ashford, a rapidly growing town in Kent, a stone's throw from London, in the South East of England. Tracy followed her dad's footsteps into the film and the t.v industry, and though he worked behind the scenes, Tracy wasn't sure whether she wanted to do the same or be in front of the camera! Starting as an model 15 years ago, Tracy graduated from 'Redroofs Film and Television School' in 2005. She then produced and starred in her first commercial that screened at Vue cinemas around England, since then she hasn't looked back. Tracy has worked on a number of feature films, shorts, commercials and t.v productions.
Now the 32-year-old is set to become a heart throb in the up-coming 2011 feature film, "L is for Lala". I spoke to Tracy via the wonder of Skype and I must say it reafirmed what my first impression of her was in our communications thus far. She is one of the most down-to-earth, funny and modest actresses I've ever had the pleasure to interview or speak too...bar none, and it certainly helped that the woman's breathtakingly gorgeous. We spoke about putting her life out there to be screwtinized by the public and being picked apart by the critics, knowing fully well that the lesbian community are usually very wary and critical of how they are being represented on film. The process of going from a 30-page tentative script to a complete and professionally crafted one, then having the whole pre-production process come together in a whoosh....including filming, and financing the entire project on her own! But with the trailer of the movie set to premiere in two weekes, don't be fooled, L is for Lala, wasn't a rushed film, not in the production quality, the acting, the sets....the plot....the story! Nothing! It will make you wish for a part 2, even with the film being 110mins long... Sequel? A lesbian sequel? Never been done, you say? Well to listen to her tell it... nothing is impossible and no thought improbable. The following is the first interview I did with Tracy. Enjoy!
Tee S: Do you have any involvement besides as an actor to the film? Tracy Redington: Yes I also produced the film. TS: In 'L is for Lala', you play the lead role, is Lala your first full-fledged gay role? TR: Yes TS: How did you get the role of Lala? TR: I gave myself the role!! I wrote an original 30 page script and had it transformed in to a feature film screenplay by Viv Young. Viv wrote the script with me and other actors in mind e.g C.J my girlfriend in the film, was intended for Lauren Maddox. TS: Tell us a bit about your character and the film? TR: My character is Lala a big thinker a lot on her mind, shy but with mad ideas. She's wild and exciting but still hides the truth. She becomes a lapdancer to pay off her drug dealer Danny, played by Shaun Smith (Wolfeman). A acting scout comes along earlier in her life and persudes her to give acting ago, and even when she's in the deepest depths of drugs, he comes back to try and get her out of that world. Her best friend Leon who is also gay supports her along the way. TS: From the mark up Lala seems to be a very complex personality with many layers. How did you prepare such a role? TR: Well the film is based on a true story starting from my teenage years, I couldn't portray that in the film, so when we start, I'm in my 20's. I basically went back into myself, so I also started lapdancing again! I wanted to promote gay lesbian bands so we are using a lot of music for the soundtrack from Kenelis and Heads Hearts. TS: Does Lala have any romantic interests in the film? TR: Lala has a few romantic interests in the film, her drama teacher Amy Seagrove,Her girlfriend C.J And another lapdancer Martine played by Fiona Robinson. TS: Having completed the film...how was it playing Lala, and will you be willing to play another gay role / film? TR: It was very emotional, stressful but also exciting. Luckily I had an amazing crew Will Moore Director, Jaemes Gregory the first AD. Even the make up team were amazing, to all the camera men and women and the runners were fab! I would love to play another gay role maybe a Lesbian action hero?!! TS: Can you give us an insider's antidote from the days of filming? Something memorable... TR: Everyday was memorable for me. We had such a laugh some very funny times, I produced a music video for Heads.Hearts at the same time and used them in the film. One day we were doing some sexy pole dancing scenes with the band playing in the background and me and Martine crashed on the bar and the band kept playing not noticing we were stuck in a compromising position 8 foot high up in the air with the complete giggles!! Also driving the lamborghini through central London was a big highlight for me! These questions are from a member, a viewer and PNT Tv's own team: TS: Laurel from Virginia (viewer) - 1/ Are there anymore LGBTQ actors in the film?" TR: There are a few others that are queer too!! (a member from Sweden) - "Are there any intimate lesbian scenes in the movie and if there is, are they very chased and/or realistic?" TR: They were real enough for me! (PNT Tv Vlogger) - Are you single or is there a significant other? TR: Yes I'm single. TS: Is doing a sex scene with a woman any different to one with a man? (assuming you have done sex scenes before! lolz!!!) TR: I've never done sex scenes in a film before! TS: You do realize that once this become a LBTQ classic that you are going to be herald, beloved and swooned over by thousands of lezzy fans, how does this prospect make you feel? TR: Very excited, bring it on!!! TS: When will 'L is for Lala' be released? TR: Hopefully will be released early next year! TS: As an English film...would it be making the rounds in American festivals? TR: It will defiantly be going around the American festivals. TS: Have you acquired any distribution? TR: Sort of, but I haven't signed with them so I can't officially say. TS: So what's next for Tracy Redington? TR: Lala 2 When I asked Tracy why she had decided to make a film about herself, she replied that she had played around with the idea of doing so for a long time, but since it was from the darkest parts of her life, she knew it would be the biggest and scariest challenge of her life, but that she felt it was a story that needed to be told. As for right now, she says she is looking forward to the release of "L is for Lala" in 2011. Photography by Ezzidin Alwan
