Tales of an Inspired MusicianInterview with Amber from HEADS HEARTS! 1) How did the both of you meet?
Ed and I have known each other for over 10 years now. Ed was drafted in to do lead male vocals and play a bit of keys for a covers band that I was singing in. We stood next to each other and went through a few songs. For the pair of us it was’ admiration at first sight’ both for each others sense of humor and musical ability. I knew almost instantly that I had to work with him at some point in the future. He’s a very special talented man. 2) Do you guys have an album? I was trying to find some of your music to buy, but couldn't. If you do, tell us about it? To date due to a few technical issues we have only actually released one single on iTunes and that’s ‘Qualified’. We are however releasing an EP on download in February next year and we’re very excited about it. We are both very confident that this is a true reflection of what we do. Keep your eyes and ears peeled. It’s good. 3) What inspires you to write your songs? It’s a strange one really, we generally write our songs through what the music makes us feel as a posed to writing a song and creating the music for it. The writing process generally starts with Ed ‘the music boy’ coming up with an idea of a tune then he’ll send it over to me. We’ll then spend a couple of weeks separately listening to it and getting ideas down, then we’ll get in the studio and put our ideas together. The really strange thing about the process is that we often come up with similar subjects or feels for the tracks. It’s a really enjoyable organic way of doing things. 4) What’s your favorite song you've written and why? Dance Girls Dance (2nd song on the forth coming EP). It was a real turning point in the way we were working. We had spent a while producing our songs with very stripped down straight vocals. We were just trying something different to what we knew. It was a great experiment and we produced some really great stuff but something wasn’t quite right and we both knew it. So we decided to write a ton of new tracks & dirty up some of the old ones plus with me singing the way that I’m known for “with balls” were much happier with the outcome. I personally haven’t heard anything like it and we are very confident sitting under the label of ‘Electronic Soul’. Also I love the lyrics. It takes you on a really sexy trip. 5) How was the video shoot for “L is for Lala?” What is the concept of the video (if you're allowed to say)? What was your favorite moment while shooting? Hanging out with the cast and crew for a few days was a lot of fun. We went to a few different locations to do some filming. Some parts of it were for actual scenes in the film so it’s probably best I don’t go into too much detail. The video will be for our song In My Blood. We haven’t actually seen the final cut yet but I think it’s going to be a pretty hot video. There wasn’t a favorite moment as such but definitely the most memorable part was finishing filming late one night around a swimming pool, as I was packing up I got dragged, fully clothed, into a swimming pool by Tracy Redington (star of said film). It was totally uncalled for but thankfully, for her, I saw the funny side. I am still plotting my revenge.
6) I'm a musician as well and I've come to find that being in the studio is definitely not my favorite thing. Do you prefer being in the studio versus performing live or vice versa? I do love being in the studio, especially working with Ed. I’ve worked with quite a few different producers and it can often be quite a painful experience. But working with one or your best friends making music you love, well it’s easy. Nothing beats performing live though. It’s so exciting bringing to life what you’ve been locked away creating. Delivering it to the world with all the passion and energy you can throw at it. Giving a great gig is one of the best feelings in the world. 7) Are you planning on touring at all? We would love to tour and are sure we will do a small one at worst next year. We are on the lookout for new management right now and as soon as we have found that the tour will be a lot more possible. 8) Any new projects in the works? We are putting all of our energy on the release of the EP at the moment. We are also working on a video for Dance Girls Dance and are hoping that we’ll have that to release alongside the In My Blood video for the EP. We’re very busy trying to make things happen. 9) What’s the most important thing you want your fans to take away from your music? First and foremost I want them to be effected. I want to excite people by what we do. We get to have a lot of fun doing what we do and for me there is no option but to give people 150% when you perform. 10) Where can viewers find you on the web? Usual places like myspace.com/headshearts. Facebook search heads hearts. And we keep a blog of our favorite things headshearts.tumblr.com. You can see quite a few videos on youtube if you search heads.hearts. The video that we did for ‘Qualified’ is on there & it is really good, if I do say so myself. Also there is some live footage from various gigs. We have a little issue with live videos of ours, we use so much sub and base in our tunes that it often destroys the sound quality, but it’s worth a look there is some really good stuff up there. Fun & InspirationalI've decided to include a couple videos in my blog/vlogs every week of some music videos that I find to be brilliant in their respective genres and messages. I hope you enjoy them!
