Tales of an Inspired MusicianEUROVISION
Show #13
This past weekend Düsseldorf, Germany held the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It's a huge competition in which ALL European countries present a song that is performed by an artist in hopes to win the Eurovision title.
Last year, Germany brought home a HUGE win with artist Lena who, sadly fell from the number 1 spot in 2010 to the 10th spot this year. Winner of Eurovision 2011 was Azerbaijan with Ell & Nikki singing "Running Scared." It was a great song, but I can definitely say it wasn't the only great song. Countries like Slovenia (which in my opinion, should have gotten much more recognition and possibly should have won) fell victim to the cliquish ties among countries; ties such as those between Finland and Norway or Italy and San Marino.
(My personal favorite performance: Slovenia)
The winner is selected through voting, but here's the catch; viewers may NOT vote for their home countries. This is to ensure that people are really voting for the songs and not the countries within which they reside. Each country can award a total of 37 points. 12 of those points are awarded to whichever song/country that received the most votes, 10 points are awarded to the second highest voted song, 8 to the third highest voted song and so on and so forth.
All in all, it was a great year! I can't wait for the next one! Be sure to check out all the other performances. There are some you'll fall in love with and other you'll fall over cracking up about. Happy Eurovisioning! Comments? Questions? Anything?
